Happy Father’s day + Book Pre-Sale!

Helloooooo!

Happy Father’s day! This is a special shout out to my father- Mr. Tino Guity ( I call him Papi).  Papi, you have sacrificed so much for me and I didn’t even know or care to appreciate your effort.  Papi’s love language is ‘acts of service’ (click here to learn your love language).  My love language is quality time and words of affirmation.  My Papi has worked his whole life to provide for our family and as a result of that work I have been fortunate to have access to opportunities that I could have only dreamed of.  On this day, I salute my father 💕.

I missed ya’ll! So much has been happening so fast and I am taking it all in.  Since my last blog post I went to Cuba/Bahamas (May 2018) and celebrated holding an actual copy of the book where I am a co-author: ‘Black Therapist Rock- A glimpse through an experts eyes’ click here to pre-order your copy (available until 06.26.18).

I learned a lot about myself in this journey of being a co-author and new entrepreneur in the field of mental health.  The implications of self and hair esteem as a black woman has taught me a lot about how to show up in different settings while still being authentic to myself.

Here are the top three (3) things I learned about myself in the journey of helping my sisters grow in their confidence as it relates to loving their hair:

1. SLAY, that!

  • Hustle, work hard, grind; all blanket statements on staying busy.  A woman that works and is on the go needs her hair to be of convenience and sometimes that may be a weave, braids, crochet braids or any protective style.  Remember that you make the hair look good, not the other way around #werkHONEY!

2. It’s not going to look like the youtube tutorial.

  • No one in the world has hair like you and that’s your power/beauty.  Use resources as a guide, be patient with yourself in creating a routine that makes you feel beautiful/ sexy!

3. Let it go!

  • Split ends, unhealthy relationships, stressful situations.  Stress is beyond REAL and alive/ well.  Every battle is not meant for you to fight, when we carry stress it manifest in physical symptoms.  For me it was daily migraines, weight loss and my hair falling out.

My chapter is titled “Don’t get it twisted”. I share my experience of keeping it all together on the outside while crumbling on the inside and my natural hair falling out in the process and how I came out of it better and stronger than ever before!

In the video below the founder and CEO of Black Therapist Rock- Deran Young share the implications on self esteem in father/ daughter relationships.

Love, peace and kinky coils,
