I love connecting with fellow naturals who explore the natural hair journey from a holistic lens.  In the interview we talked about the emotional process in different phases of your hair journey as well as perceptions from peers/ loved ones.  In my practice as a therapist, I have witnessed all of the emotions associated with how people view themselves and traumas that affect their sense of self in the present.

I have been thinking for sometime, how can I share with you all emotional wellbeing tips within the natural hair journey.  From that Natural Ever After Podcast was birthed, the first episode will be on 04.15.2020. More details to come!

So I have a date tonight at 6pm and I feel nervous, excited and chill all at the same time lol, if that makes sence.  Before any date I always seem to have the inner dialogue of how to wear my hair for the date where I still look like myself.  I’ll be the first to say this, I love my natural hair and all it’s glory however I really want the focus to be me.  I want him to see ME, well of course he see’s you; y’all are going on a date, right? Well, technically yes it’s a date however in my experience of dating in general but specifically in Atlanta, men like things about me and not really me. It’s either my height, career, hair (lol), skin tone or something random.  All those things are cool but getting to genuinely know a potential sweetheart can be challenging.

As a forever learner I learned a few things about dating which include balance, being VERY aware of wants/needs and deal breakers.  *Shout out to my therapist*

In one of our sessions we talked about identifying what I value and what falls under the ‘bye sir, get out of my life’ category.  Knowing what you want is the easy part, want/needs can be tricky because as you grow your needs shift.  I can think back to the guys I have dated when I was younger and and I wonder now, girl, what were you thinking?!.  Well, I can tell you, at the time they gentlemen had what I wanted.  That’s the thing about growth, what works at one point in your journey may not necessarily work when you transition to another phase and that’s what my experience has taught me.

March 2014 was the first time I stepped foot on the rich cultural island of Cuba.  It was nothing like what I had read in the history books when I was in school.  I think that its best to go to Cuba and experience for yourself what its like to step back into time.  From the antique cars, the music/art and the architecture, I was is AWE! So, this past weekend I met the founder and CEO of the Mane Choice, Courtney Adeleye at her event in Huntsville, Alabama.  There was a contest for the best elevator pitch, I gave it a shot and did not win the cash prize however I got something better- I was able to speak with Courtney one-on-one!  Let me say this; this woman is a MULTI-MILLIONARE in the hair industry!  Any opportunity to get consultation from the brain of the company beats a cash prize any day in my world.  Check out my FB live video below for details on my experience and my a view of all the black Friday hair products that I purchased.

Yes, you read the subject line correctly, 2018 is going to be epic beyond measure! 2017 has been an amazing year for many reasons.  In August I celebrated my 1st year on my own in my beautiful apartment.  That alone was a milestone for me and I am very proud to have a place to call home.  Peace is EVERYTHING! Don’t ever take for granted the peace that comes with having a safe place to lay your head at night.  I am a member of Black Therapist Rock (BTR) and I am also a co-author in the upcoming anthology that is set to be released in July 2018 for Minority Mental Health Awareness (pre-order your copy here).  My chapter is titled ‘Don’t Get It Twisted!’, where I talk about how hair health is very much tied to emotional well-being. In my chapter I share personal experiences throughout my natural hair journey, tips on healthy hair care and my growth into womanhood with the use of therapy.  In collaboration with BTR there will be a ‘Black is Beautiful’ tour in Paris that will flow into the beautiful island of Cuba in 2018!  (sidetone: I need to enroll in a fitness course to get ready to SLAYYYYYY in 2018 and beyond lol). I hope everyone enjoyed their Thursday to spend time with food and family (lol), family is important but let’s be honest we all came together for the food.  This thanksgiving I enjoyed time with my sister and her in-laws, I have been in a space of gratitude when I am finally able to just be present and absorb all the love thats around me. Lets rewind, I went to the Black Therapist Rock Conference in August 2017, ‘GAME CHANGER’ is an understatement!  I went to the conference with the intention of only getting continuing education credits (CEU’s), I left the conference as a soon to best selling author! *hair flip* lol but for real.  My book chapter is titled “Don’t Get It Twisted!”, Check out the FB Live below for a sneak peak of whats to come.
